| While my roots are firmly planted on the techie side of things (electronics, instrumentation and data communications), as I continue to grow as a tech writer I have seen the benefits (to my clients, as well as myself) of belonging to a professional technical writing organization. That's why I recently joined the Society for Technical Communication. The organization provides a wealth of resources to help me help my clients, including training, newsletters and magazines, job listings and other information. I look forward to using these resources to further enhance the services I can provide... |
| Telework Works! |
Posted: 09 Mar 2005 by Ron |
As I do the rounds contacting potential clients in between current writing and instructing jobs, I have been noticing a common perspective. A lot of otherwise progressive companies continue to be reluctant to embrace the advantages of contracting work out on a telecommuting basis.
I must confess that this surprised me at first. From my perspective the advantages are obvious, and significantly outweight the challenges. Of course, this is what I do, and I have had almost six years to learn how it works. I know how to use the telephone, email, the Internet, instant messaging, file transfers and other techniques to ensure clear, concise communications.
Telework works for me. The important question is: how can it work for you?
Well, the benefits are too numerous to go into in detail here, but in short, telework works for my clients because they save money! They pay only for what they need...no more and no less. There are no overhead or downtime costs, no benefits to pay, no offices to rent or furnish, no computers or networks to purchase or maintain. You get the picture. When you contract with me you get the benefits of my training and experience, my low overhead and my motivated, results-oriented, deadline-focused efforts. In other words, you get high quality, high value services.
